Hormone Balancing

Basic bloodwork is like a chapter in a book. It only shows you part of the story.
Dutch testing shows you the rest.

Hormone imbalance can show up in a variety of signs and symptoms.  Whether you’re trying to conceive or experiencing menopausal issues, the most common cycle or hormonal imbalances I can help you resolve are:

  • Irregular, heavy and/or painful periods
  • Mid-cycle spotting

  • Migraines

  • PMS

  • PCOS

  • Night sweats and hot flashes

  • Breast tenderness

  • Fatigue

  • Mood swings

  • Infertility

  • Anxiety

  • Low sex drive

There are several ways I can identify your hormonal imbalances. We use Chinese medicine as well as the Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones (DUTCH). Between the two of these, I can get a complete and thorough assessment of what you need to rebalance.

I have been using DUTCH testing for years to help women better understand their bodies and get answers that traditional testing and other doctors may not provide.  For example, most medical doctors are only using blood tests to assess female hormone levels. Basic blood tests can be very valuable in assessing your hormones, but they only show a piece of the puzzle.  DUTCH testing can show you the rest.

I offer two types of DUTCH testing and will recommend which one I think is best for you based on your symptoms and goals.  These two ways to assess your hormonal imbalances are:

DUTCH Complete

Infertility, Fatigue,
PCOS, Stress,
Insomnia,
Hot flashes/night sweats,
Weight gain, Anxiety,
Mood swings, Low sex drive, & more

DUTCH Cycle Mapping

Infertility, PCOS,
Irregular cycles,
Mid-cycle spotting,
Night sweats, PMS,
Luteal phase defect

DUTCH Complete Test

The DUTCH complete test is more comprehensive than basic blood hormone testing and measures your sex and adrenal hormones and their metabolites, as well as organic acids.   What does this mean?  It means you get a more complete picture of your hormonal health, AND it is much easier to do because it’s a urine test that you can do at home!

What hormones are tested?

  • Progesterone & progesterone metabolites

  • Estrogen & estrogen metabolites

  • Androgens & androgen metabolites

  • Cortisol & cortisol metabolites

  • Cortisone

  • Creatinine

  • DHEA-S

  • Melatonin

  • Neurotransmitter organic acids for dopamine and norepinephrine/epinephrine

  • Nutritional organic acids for B12, B6, and glutathione

DUTCH Cycle Mapping Test

Estrogen and progesterone are the two major female hormones involved in menstruation, reproduction and hormonal balance. The typical approach to assessing these hormones involves testing them once during a woman’s cycle. The DUTCH Cycle Mapping test however measures estrogen and progesterone 9 times throughout the cycle to “map” out a pattern of how these hormones change throughout the month. For women with irregular cycles especially with mid-cycle spotting, infertility, PCOS, premenstrual migraines or even short or long luteal phases, this test can more accurately demonstrate irregularities in these hormones during each cycle phase. By identifying any imbalances, treatment can be targeted to treat the root causes of these hormonal disruptions.
